About

Hi, I’m Josh.

I rent a flat, I have a small balcony, and I’m learning to grow food on it — properly, in public.

How this started

[Josh: where do you live, what is your balcony like — size, direction, floor, wind? What was the first thing you tried to grow, and what went wrong?]

Like a lot of renters, I hit the same walls again and again: I can’t drill into anything, the balcony has a weight limit nobody could quite explain, the wind is brutal up here, and winter shuts everything down. Most growing advice assumes a garden. I didn’t have one.

Why Pot and Balcony exists

I wanted the resource I couldn’t find: honest, specific advice for people growing in tiny rented spaces, from someone actually doing it. Real photos, real mistakes, real prices — and no pretending that an expensive gadget is essential.

The long game: a farm

[Josh: describe your longer-term goal — the farm, smallholding or land you eventually want, and why. What does the balcony teach you that you’ll need later? What does “success” look like in five or ten years?]

The balcony is my training ground. Every guide here is a small experiment in growing more with less: less space, less time, less money wasted on the wrong kit.

How this site is made

I’ll be upfront: I use AI tools to help with research, drafting and publishing. What AI can’t do is stand on my balcony. The photos, the field notes and the verdicts on gear come from me. [Josh: adjust this paragraph to describe your process in your own words.]

Ground rules

  • I only recommend gear I’ve actually used — or I tell you plainly that I haven’t.
  • Affiliate links are always disclosed, and they never decide what I recommend. Details here.
  • If I get something wrong, I’ll fix it and say so.
